Forum of the Baltic States wind orchestra
State Agency of Intangible Cultural Heritage invites to the Forum of the Baltic States wind orchestra conductors and ensemble leaders on October 17 -18, 2009, at Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music. Today when financial policy of the state affects practically all fields, culture education is updating not only problems of optimization, combining and elimination, but also professionalism, quality, utility, perspective. Such an international meeting of wind instrument professionals is arranged for the first time both to present traditions of collective music making in Lithuania Latvia and Estonia – from music school ensemble to the Song Festival orchestra, and in the course of common discussions, exchange of experience to create ideas and proposals for maintainance and development of this genre in all its expressions – music schools, general schools, amateur orchestras and music groups.Forum participants are offered very intensive and varied programme – exhibition of music instruments and sheet music, masterclasses for wind orchestra conductors and ensemble leaders, familiarisation with alternative possibilities of collective music-making offered by Yamaha music school system, acquaintance with the new Jāzeps Mediņš` Riga 1st Music School. Masterclass participants will be granted SAICH certificates.

In frames of the Forum one will be able to make acquaintance with music instrument exhibition – presentation of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia music intsrument shops and sheet music exhibition – editions for wind orchestra published by SAICH, as well as Lithuanian and Estonian colleagues. Concerts have a special place in the Forum proceedings. On Saturday, October 17, at 11.00 the Grand Hall of the Latvian Academy of Music will host concert of the Latvian music with participation of the wind orchestra of the University of Latvia, conductors Jānis Puriņš and Guntis Kumačevs /Latvia/. Programme will include music from the previous Song Festivals, created by Gunārs Ordelovskis, Romualds Kalsons, Juris Karlsons, Andris Vecumnieks, Līga Celma, as well as first performances – Alvils Altmanis` Intermeco, Anitra Tumševica` Liivi Songs, Pēteris Butāns` Livonian Castle Dance, Ilona Rupaine` Choral of Mara`s Land. Music of neighbours will be performed by Latvian orchestras together with Estonian and Lithuanian guest-conductors. In the evening of October 17, at 19.00, concert of Lithuanian music will be performed by wind orchestra FANFARA, conductors Jānis Grahoļskis /Latvia/ and Tadas Sileika /Lithuania/. Programme – music by Rimantas Giedraitis, Kazys Daugela, Eduards Balsis, Valdas Stakaitis and Laurynas Vakaris Lopas. On Sunday, October 18, at 14.00, youth wind orchestra AUSEKLĪTIS will perform Estonian music, conductors Haralds Bārzdiņš /Latvia/, Hando Poldmae /Estonia/. Programme – Uno Naiso, Lydia Auster, Rein Plooms, T. Aints, Tinu Korvits, Eduard Tamm. Ilo Krigul. Two ensemble concerts will take place on October 17 at 17.20 in the hall of Riga 1st Music School (Kronvalda blvd. 8) – participating flute, saxophone and percussion ensembles, as well as Ropaži Music and Art School saxophone quartet. Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music secondary school brass ensemble, Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music clarinet quartet and tuba quartet TUBOLOĢIJA – will perform in the Organ Hall of JVLMA on October 18 at 11.20. All Forum concerts are open to audience and free of charge.
